Shirley Jean Joyce Brinkley

March 20, 1937 - October 3, 2026

Mrs. Shirley Jean Joyce Brinkley, 89, of Pilot Mountain, passed away Saturday evening, October 3, 2026, at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Brinkley was born March 20, 1937, in Surry County, one of two daughters born to the late Ricie Oliver and Alma McDaniel Joyce. She worked as a hairdresser for many years and later taught cosmetology classes in South Carolina for several years. Shirley also volunteered as a respite worker with Easterseals for a few years. She was active in her community and church, Jessup Grove Baptist Church, and was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Daniel Fletcher “Dan” Brinkley; two daughters, Robin Brinkley Gibson (Tim) and Jill Brinkley Tweet (Jason); a son, Jack Daniel Brinkley (Rebecca); six grandchildren, Daniel Seth Gibson (Adele), Daniel Brinkley (Laura), Noelle Brinkley, Cole Brinkley, Katie Epperson (Nathan), and Jake Tweet (Cadence); two great-grandchildren, Fletcher Gibson and Porter Gibson; and two great-grandchildren on the way, Elizabeth Jean Epperson and Baby Tweet. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Brinkley was preceded in death by a sister, Lena Mae Lucas. A service of worship and celebration of Shirley’s life will be held Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Jessup Grove Baptist Church, with Gary Gibson and Billy Cook officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the church. At other times, the family welcomes friends to the home of Jill and Jason Tweet in Pilot Mountain. The family wishes to express their gratitude for the love and compassionate care shown by the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
