Susan "Dawn" Barton

It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Susan “Dawn” Barton. Dawn,53, of Bassett, Virginia, died on May 28, 2023. She was born December 2, 1969, inBassett, to David McMillan and the late Barbara Draper. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her uncle Larry Draper; and uncle-in-law David Seay.

No matter what life threw at Dawn, she handled it with grace and determination. If you knew Dawn or spent any time with her, her three boys drove her crazy, but she loved it and wouldn’t have it any other way. Dawn would do anything she could to provide for her boys. She was a loving mother, nana, sister, cousin, and aunt. Dawn rarely met a stranger and was a friend to many. She was kind and generous to a multitude of people and always willing to lend a helping hand. Her heart was immense, and she was very quick to forgive. In Dawn’s free time you would find her spending time at the beach, on the water, or just enjoying the sun, along with spending her time with her grandchildren, family, and close friends, of which she loved all dearly.

Dawn is survived by her father and stepmother, David and Dorothy McMillan; her three sons: Cameron Carroll and fiancé Alyssa; Coty Carroll, and Bryce Barton; her two grandchildren, Carver and Cambree Carroll; her two brothers,Christopher Mills, and Jonathan McMillan and wife Crystin; her uncle, Carroll Draper and wife Shirley; her aunt Phyllis Bryde and husband Chris; her aunts Teresa Seay, Patsy Kasen and husband Mark; her aunt-in-law Barbara Parnell Draper; and her uncles Stafford Draper, and Rick Draper and wife Oksana.

A celebration of life will be held in Tampa, Florida with details to follow.
