Susan Marguerite Hairston Gamble, 74, of Ridgeway, Virginia, passed away at her home on Friday, August 21, 2026. She was born February 17, 1952, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late John Early Hairston, Sr. and Betty Clarice Hairston.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Dianne Hairston.

Susan was a graduate of George Washington Carver High School. Throughout her life, she possessed a caring heart and a genuine desire to help others. She worked with individuals with mental disabilities and in foster care, offering support and compassion.

Susan was also a hardworking and independent woman with an entrepreneurial drive. For 20 years, she owned and operated an alteration and dress shop, L.A. Zaris, where her skill and dedication allowed her to serve many throughout the community.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Defaria Gamble and Dania Gamble; one son, Jermaine Gamble; five sisters, Kathy Walton, Carla Hayes, Rhonda Hayes, Pam Hairston, and Cathy Redd; two brother, John E. Hairston, Jr. (Adrien) and Charles Fontaine; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 30, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Martinsville Chapel.
