Teddy Kendall
Teddy Kendall Obituary Clifton “Teddy” Kendall, 64, of Salem and formerly of Craig County passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024. Teddy was born on August 18, 1959, to the late Alice and Floyd Kendall in Fincastle, Virginia. In addition to his parents, Teddy is preceded in death by his siblings, Florene “Flo”, Bill, and Bob.Teddy was a man that didn’t need a lot to make him happy. There weren’t many things that he would complain about. It didn’t matter how much he had, he was always going to try to give to his family, and friends. Even in his worst of times when he was unable to do things, he tried so that nobody else would have to.Teddy always enjoyed making people smile and laugh. All his life, he was the life of the party. Teddy’s storytelling skills would have you pulled into the story so well that you felt like you were part of it. One of his favorite things to do was to sit on the front porch of his family’s Bear Bottoms Hunt Club in Oriskany, Virginia and telling his stories to anyone that would listen. Many people say that once someone quits drinking, they lose their fun personality. That couldn’t be any farther from the truth for Teddy. Teddy celebrated 7 years of sobriety this year and never lost his peppy, and funny personality.Teddy was a true outdoorsman. He loved fishing with his family. Often taking fishing trips to the catfish pond with his brother, Gene or to the lake with his brother-in-law Eugene and nephew Cameron. Teddy enjoyed hunting just as much as his fishing trips. One of his favorite places in this world was the family’s Bear Bottoms hunting camp that has been in the family for decades. Teddy was affectionately, and jokingly known as the housekeeper at Bear Bottoms. He always made sure everyone had coffee in the mornings, the dishes were done, and the floors stayed swept. In his kids younger days, they often would take trips to Finewick Mines to catch Salamanders for fishing bait. They also would take short road trips across Potts Mountain to look at the deer. Those left here on earth to cherish his memory include his children, Alisha Croghan (Josh), Alex Kendall (Makayla), Aaron Kendall, and Andrew Kendall (Jacob); grandchildren, Aria and Pheobe Croghan; siblings, Vicky Maxey (Eugene), Ruth Britt (Mike), Mary Harris, Jimmy Kendall (Debbie), Gene Kendall, Danny Kendall (Betty), Nancy Midkiff, Donald Gene Kendall (Carolyn); special nieces and nephews, Darrell (Brandy), Derek (Amy), Harmony (Aaron), Rocky, Chase, Cameron, Chloe, Rylee, and Jasper; mother-in-law, Martha Paitsel; and special friends, Angela Kendall, Wilma Clark, Pat Meador and many others. The family will receive friends from 5 until 6 PM on Thursday, August 22 with a Memorial service immediately following at 6 pm in the chapel of Paitsel Funeral Home in New Castle, Virginia.
