Thomas Lee Carter

Thomas Lee Carter, 81, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Tuesday, March 4, 2025. He was born August 28, 1943, in Pittsylvania County to the late General Green Carter and Angie Louise Price Carter.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Irene Hairston, and brother, James Wilson Carter.

Thomas worked in both the furniture and textile industries for more than twenty years at Hooker Furniture and Panel Knitting and attended Northside High School. He enjoyed playing cards, watching westerns, and ball games, with a special fondness for the Dallas Cowboys. Thomas loved sitting by the window, watching the cars go by, and cherished his time with family and friends, especially over a good cup of coffee. Known for his jolly easygoing nature. Thomas never met a person he didn’t like and was a friend to everyone. He will be remembered for his warm spirit and the joy he brought to those around him.

He is survived by his sisters, Ida Mae Carter Day (Earnest) and Joyce Ann Carter Adams (Charles); two godchildren; best friends, Rudy Murrell and Curtis Toney; and caretaker, Michelle Draper.
