Thomas Martin Smith
Thomas Martin Smith “Tom”, a follower of Jesus, loving husband and father was born in Radford, Va on August 13, 1933. He continued on to eternal life with Jesus on September 21, 2024.
Tom served in the US Air Force in Korea and was affectionately known as “the IBM guy” on Virginia Tech’s campus due to his many years there repairing typewriters for IBM. He was very devoted to his wife Norma (of 69 years), a loving father, and a quiet man who expressed his love through acts of service to others.
He is survived by his wife, and his two daughters Donna Smith (Tom Lyttle) and Cathy Smith Wagnon (Darrin). He is also survived by two grandchildren Laura Beth Alden (Ben) and TJ Wagnon (Marti Williams), three great grandchildren, close niece and nephew Nancy Walker (Jeff) and Fred Woodward and numerous other nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Richard H. Smith, Sr. and Nona Martin Smith; his brother Richard H. Smith, Jr and his sister Patricia Smith Woodward.
We are very thankful for all the employees at English Meadows Blacksburg for their kindness and extraordinary care that enabled Tom to stay with Norma through the final stages of Alzheimer’s. Also, for the Medi Hospice Team for their great care.
