Thomas "Tommy" Allgood III

November 5, 1960 - October 29, 2026

Ira Thomas (Tommy) Allgood, III

Tommy Allgood (65) of Danville, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, October 29, 2026. Tommy was born on November 5, 1960, to the late Ira Thomas Allgood, Jr., and Elizabeth Crews Allgood. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Dan River High School.

As a toddler, Tommy watched his dad make repairs in his home and began his love of wood and all power tools. As a teenager, Tommy built bookcases, candlestick holders, and designed other wood projects that expressed his creativity. His parents were always there supporting Tommy’s overwhelming need to surround himself with wood and the tools that would shape that wood into something beautiful.

Within just a few years of high school graduation, Tommy opened Custom WoodWorks and began a long career of designing and building high-quality cabinetry. Working with multiple contractors, Tommy was recognized as a master craftsman with his cabinets and furniture treasured by hundreds of families.

Following the death of his dad from lung and bone cancer, Tommy was dedicated to the Danville Cancer Association for many years. He invited his most favored band, The Holiday Band, to perform at numerous cancer fundraising events that he organized and hosted. He constantly shared his talent with God’s Pit Crew where he built cabinets for families facing disaster.

Tommy was predeceased by his parents, Ira Thomas Allgood Jr., and Elizabeth Crews Allgood. He is survived by his brother, Sidney Allgood and his wife Betty, his sister Martha Allgood Walker and her husband Carroll, five nieces and nephews, Laura Allgood Farmer (Tony), Lynn Allgood Madden (Jason), Leigh Allgood Allan (Josh), Jennifer Walker, and Matthew Walker (Lorin) and nine great nieces and nephews.

A private memorial service will be held later.

The family is grateful for all the family and friends who have shared their love and support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to God’s Pit Crew, the Danville Cancer Association, or the Pittsylvania County Library Foundation (designate Dan River Library Branch).
