Timothy Estep
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing of Timothy Leon Estep, of Roanoke, VA on Thursday, September 26, 2024 after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 73 years old.
Tim was born February 13, 1951 in Canton, Ohio to Shelby and Evelyn Estep. After graduating from Hoover High School in 1969, Tim became a deputy sheriff with the Stark County Sheriff's Office in Stark County, Ohio, kick starting his 32 years long career in law enforcement.
In 1972, Tim met the love of his life, Susan (Regan) in Canton, Ohio. The two were married less than a year later in 1973 in North Canton, Ohio and went on to have three children, Eric, Erin and Adam. Tim was known for his quick wit, strong will, terrible dad jokes, devotion to his family and profession, love of a great debate and all the desserts. Tim had a passion for judo, competitive shooting, wartime antiques, DEA, politics, and a genuine love of music. Tim always used to joke that the only thing that kept him from being a rock star was a lack of talent. He loved to write, and considered himself a "wordsmith." Tim loved God, country, his family and his beloved dog, Mugsy.
While working full time as a deputy sheriff, Tim attended Kent State University, and obtained a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice in 1979. In 1984, Tim began his federal law enforcement career as a Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration, a career which Tim was wholeheartedly passionate about. His time with the DEA took Tim and his family to Flower Mound, Texas in 1984, and to Fredericksburg, Virginia in 1991. Tim obtained a master's degree in War Studies from the Marine Corps Command and Staff College in 2002. Tim retired from the DEA in 2005 after a 21 year career of which he was extremely proud. He went on to have contracting positions with several companies following his retirement, and in 2014 he retired completely and he and Susan relocated to Haslet, Texas to be closer to several of their children.
During Tim's distinguished career with the DEA, which took him to a variety of offices and roles, Tim's primary focus always remained his family, making many career decisions based on the needs of his wife and children. Tim was an extremely proud Gaga to his four grandchildren, Jude, Annaleigh, Finnegan, and Ausrie, all whom adored their grandfather.
Tim was preceded in death by his parents, Shelby and Evelyn (Miller) Estep of Canton, Ohio. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 51 years, Susan (Regan), his sons, Eric Estep of Roanoke and Adam Estep (Kendall Estep) of College Station, Texas; his daughter Erin Smith (Bradley Smith) of Roanoke his brother, Mark Estep (Gail Estep) of Hartville, Ohio; sister, Shelley Wheelon (Michael Wheelon) of Marion, NC; and his grandchildren, Jude Annaleigh, Finnegan and Ausrie.
