Tonya Evette "Rome" Hairston Vaughn

Tonya Evette “Rome” Hairston Vaughn, 55, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Thursday, June 29, 2023 at SOVAH Health of Martinsville. She was born June 7, 1968 in Martinsville, to Clerence Auther Hairston, Sr. and Patsy Ruth Hairston Hairston.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Clerence Auther Hairston, Jr.

She was a member of Miracles in Motion; and had a heart of gold. She was resilient, enjoyed sewing and art, and collected jewelry. She loved spending time with family and friends, especially her grandson.

In addition to her parents, Tonya is survived by her husband, Herbert Vaughn; daughter, Kayla Kierra Hairston; son, Pervis Jamauel Wilson, Jr. (Shanae); sisters, Paula Swanson (Dwayne), Catherine Williams (Robert), Wanda Hairston (Tim) and Angenetta Mattox (Carlton); brothers, Lloyd, Thaddeus, Eric, Jeffery (Iris), Jeremiah (Melissa), and Vincent Hairston (Chenty); and grandson, Ashton Hairston.

The funeral will be Thursday, July 6, 2023 at 3:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel, 1425 Greensboro Road, Martinsville, Virginia, with visitation 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Carver Memorial Gardens.
