Trena Gravely Nelson passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025, at the age of 78. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Trena's gentle spirit and boundless love will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Born on September 15, 1946, Trena was a lifelong nurturer. She graduated from the Roanoke Memorial School of Practical Nursing and devoted her career to pediatric and family practice nursing. Her care and compassion touched countless lives, both professionally and personally.

Trena had a deep love for crafting, cherished shopping trips with her sister, and found her greatest joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Holding her grandbabies was among her happiest moments.

Trena is survived by her devoted husband, Martin "Ed" Nelson; her children Lynn Dickerson (Jim), David Gravely (Ann), and Beth Gravely (Nathan); her siblings Jerry Bush, Gale Feather (Sam), and Donnie Bush; and her stepchildren Susan Lee, Mary Elizabeth Nelson-Jones (Chris), and Nina Nelson. She also leaves behind 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.

Trena's legacy is one of unwavering love, quiet strength, and selfless devotion to family. She was the best example of motherly and grandmotherly love, and those fortunate enough to know her were truly blessed.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Gravely, and her beloved parents, Galen and Grace Bush.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019. Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, also at Simpson Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sherwood Memorial Gardens.
