Troy Wayne Harris
Troy Wayne Harris, 86, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026. He was born on August 11, 1940, to the late Homer Harvey Harris and Mary Alice Martin Harris. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his three infant brothers.
Troy attended County Line Church of God of Prophecy in Patrick Springs, Virginia, for many years and he loved his church family deeply. Troy was a hardworking man. He retired from Stanley Furniture after many years of dedicated service as a band-saw chief operator. He took great pride in his work.
He was a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Troy especially adored his only grandchild, Julie, and his great-grandchildren, Paisley and Colton. He always displayed birthday cards and pictures of the kids in his nursing home room to keep them close to his heart.
Troy enjoyed gardening, particularly growing tomatoes, and he was always generous in sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He also had a lifelong love of racing. An avid NASCAR fan, he drove the souvenir truck for Mr. Pegram and enjoyed traveling to follow the races wherever they went. Troy also enjoyed taking road trips with his special friend, Frances Ross. They could spend hours on the road together, enjoying the scenery and sightseeing.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He has fought the good fight, he has finished the race, he has kept the faith. — 2 Timothy 4:7
Troy is survived by his son, Randy Harris (Ellen); daughter, Teresa Hester (Mike); granddaughter, Julie Branch (Brad); great-grandchildren, Colton Branch and Paisley Branch; and friend, Frances Ross. Troy spent this last year at Stanleytown Health and Rehabilitation Center. The family would like to thank the staff and nurses for taking such great care of him.
A funeral service for Troy will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 12:00 P.M. at Bassett Funeral Service in Bassett, Virginia, with a visitation one hour prior to the service. Pastor Jason Callahan will officiate and interment will be private.
