Valery Easter Thompson Richards
Valery Easter Thompson Richards, 97, of Bassett, Virginia, passed away peacefully at her residence. She was born on March 30, 1927, in Franklin County, Virginia, to the late, Dewey Blue Thompson and Lethia Shively Thompson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by, two sons, Ronnie Dale Richards, and David Richards; one grandchild, Jennifer “Boo” Tatum; one great grandchild, Katie Midkiff; four brothers, Glen Thompson, Wilbert Thompson, Marvin Thompson, and Bluford Thompson; and one sister, Lavie Smith.
Valery was of the Baptist faith, committing herself to homemaking while raising eleven children. Alongside raising her children, she extended her care to over a hundred children as an in-home babysitter. Her joys included canning vegetables and tending to her garden with pride. Valery also found delight in frequent trips to the casino and enjoyed traveling, whether it be across the United States or simply visiting the local Walmart. Above all, she cherished moments with her family, from lounging on the porch to preparing a meal, or simply enjoying each other's company.
Valery is survived by five sons, Roger Richards (Lynn), Gary Richards (Loretta), Tony Richards, Steven Richards, and Robert Richards (Patricia); four daughters, Barbara Chauncey, Betty Harris, Brenda Richards, and Lynn Dodson (Roy); one sister, Mary Fulcher; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at Henry Memorial Park at 11:00am with Pastor Rick Poland.
