Velma Sue Britt

March 30, 1923 - December 17, 2024

Velma Sue Britt, 101, of Salem passed away on December 17, 2024.

A native of Virginia she was the wife of the late Thomas Britt and daughter of Marcus and Verna Obenshain, both deceased. She was also preceded in death by her two sisters, Helen and Isabel and their spouses; and three brothers, LeVan, Kenneth, and Roy and their spouses. Velma worked as a school teacher, as a bookkeeper with the Roanoke County Treasurer’s Office, and as a bookkeeper with Lakeside Baptist Church. She enjoyed volunteering and did so with Hospice; as a Sunday School and Bible School Teacher; supported church groups and activities; was active in her community to support people in need with transportation, meals, and help in their homes; and supported many organizations financially, especially children in need. Velma had many hobbies. She loved music singing and playing the piano; was an avid reader; enjoyed cooking; was awarded designation of Prayer Warrior; and enjoyed helping the elderly and children.

Those left to cherish her memory are her four children, Lynda and Jack, Marsha, Jan, and Ron and Lisa; four grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held in Sherwood Memorial Park on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 11:00 am.
