Vergie Gauldin Barbour

November 22, 1940 - June 17, 2026

Vergie Gauldin Barbour, 85, of Martinsville, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. She was preceded in death by her parents, Davie Gauldin and Ruby Gilbert Gauldin as well as her brothers; Alfred Gauldin, Floyd Gauldin, and Douglas Gauldin; and sisters, Louise Morris and Jessie Wetzel.

Surviving her are her loving and devoted husband of 66 years, James “Jimmy” T. Barbour; her daughter, Cheryl Martin and son-in-law, Ricky Martin; her grandson, Clint T. Martin and his wife, Michelle Martin; and her precious great-granddaughter, Lainey Mae Martin; her brothers, Jim Gauldin (Louise) and Ray Gauldin (Susan); her sisters, Jadie Carter, Delma Lawrence (James), and Georgia Smith; her sisters-in-law, Eunice Hall (George), Nancy Gauldin and Kay Gauldin.

Vergie worked at Tultex for many years and retired from Doyle Enterprises. She was a dedicated and long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church where she taught a children’s Sunday School class and worked with the “Senior Group” thereafter for many years.

Her family was very important to her, and she cherished all the time spent with her immediate family, her extended family, her church family, and her devoted friends. Most of the time that was over a meal, and a “stop by for a while” visit or just talking to them on the phone. She genuinely cared for and was concerned for people in general and worried more about others than herself.

The family would like to thank the staff of both Mulberry Creek Assisted Living and The Landmark of Stuart for the love, care and concern shown to Vergie during her time at each facility in the past 1 ½ years.

There will be a Graveside service on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM, at Roselawn Burial Park, in Martinsville. Pastor Glen Stinnett will officiate services.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to Trinity Baptist Church, God’s Pit Crew, or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
