Virginia Elizabeth Wilson Candler

Virginia Elizabeth Candler (Bettye) of Roanoke, VA passed away August 22, 2023. She was born on September 19, 1933 to the late Virginia E. Mason and William H. Wilson. She is preceded in death by her sister Mary L Milliron. She leaves behind her loving husband of 71 years of marriage, Robert C Candler. They met at The Lakeside amusement park, where Robert worked, and have been inseparable ever since. She is also survived by her daughter Lisa Candler Smith (Albert Smith), her granddaughter Jade Smith, her son Jay Harrison, and granddaughters Jennica, Jasmin, and Jade Harrison.

Bettye lived a long happy life, spending her time working over 100 jobs and volunteering for countless organizations. She loved meeting new people and always lit up the room with her larger than life personality. She made everyone she ever met feel loved and seen. Bettye had a great love of music and was an active member of her church choir; she was a talented singer and piano player.

A service will be held at Lotz Funeral Home in Salem, VA on Thursday at 2pm.
