Virginia Parabelle Shelton Hiatt

November 2, 1926 - July 6, 2026

Mrs. Virginia Parabelle Shelton Hiatt, age 99, of Mount Airy, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026. Mrs. Hiatt was born in Surry County on November 2, 1926, to the late Ramey and Clennie Rakes Shelton. Mrs. Hiatt lived an extraordinary life filled with faith, love, kindness and unwavering devotion to her family. A God-fearing woman, she believed in the power of love, hard work, and putting others before herself, leaving an unforgettable impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Born into a family of fourteen children, she learned the value of perseverance and sacrifice at an early age. She helped care for her brothers and sisters and carried that same strong work ethic throughout her life. No task was ever too great and no person was beyond her willingness to lend a helping hand. She was the heart of her family. She cherished every moment spent with her family, creating memories that will be treasured for generations. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose greatest joy was caring for and spending time with those she loved. Mrs. Hiatt retired from the Hospital Flower Shop after many years of dedicated service and was a faithful member of Shelton Church of the Brethren. Her life was a beautiful testimony of Christian faith, humility, and service to others. While her absence leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who loved her, we rejoice in knowing she has been welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior and reunited with the loved ones who have gone before her. She will forever be remembered for her strength, her servant’s heart, her unwavering faith, and the deep love she had for her family. Her legacy of love, compassion, and faith will continue to live on for generations to come. Surviving is her daughter Donna Hiatt (Roger Frechette), sons, Wendell Leon Hiatt, Jr., Mike Hiatt (Linda); grandchildren, Leon Hiatt III (Joy), Wendi Bennett (Les), Kristi Whichard (Jonathan), Kandis George; 12 great grandchildren; 13 great great grandchildren; sisters, Jean Shelton Arrington (Harvey), Betty Shelton Hall (Mickey), Dorothy Baynes (Don).
