Walter Hutch Jones

Walter Hutch Jones, age 73, of Raleigh, NC, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, September 27, 2026, at his residence. Walter was born July 31, 1953, in Portsmouth, VA to the late Nellie Mae Betterton and the late Alvah Hutch Jones. He was married to Linda Scearce Jones for 35 years, who survives, of the residence.

Walter enjoyed watching the online services of Swansonville Pentecostal Holiness Church, Dry Fork, VA. He retired after 39 years working in various capacities, including as the manager, of Sherwin-Williams Paint Company. Walter was a dedicated father and enjoyed special weekend trips with family and loved preparing everyone’s favorite meal for their birthdays.

Walter loved his antique trucks and he spent many hours restoring his classic trucks and cars. He was a person who was known for his exceptional attention to detail. He loved to learn and was considered a history buff.

In addition to his beloved wife, left to cherish his memory is his son, Brian Jones, daughter, Rachel Sweeney (Kerry) of Raleigh, NC, sisters, Catherine Womack of Halifax and Dianne Anderson of South Boston, and brother, Robert Jones of Halifax. In addition, he is survived by his beloved pets, Chloe and Ollie, who were not simply pets, but cherished members of the family.

A funeral service honoring Walter will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, 2:00 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services, Mt. Hermon Chapel, 3935 Franklin Turnpike, Danville, VA, officiated by Rev. Mike Hearp. Interment will follow at Highland Burial Park, Danville. Prior to the funeral service, a visitation by friends will also take place at the Mt. Hermon Chapel of Norris Funeral Services from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
