Wayne Douglas Barrow

January 20, 1939 - January 31, 2024

Wayne Douglas Barrow, 85, of Martinsville, Virginia, passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024. He was born January 20, 1939, in Martinsville, Virginia, to the late Douglas Wesley Barrow and Elizabeth Lester Barrow.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mom, Bettie Handy Barrow; father-in law, H.D. Wright; mother-in-law, Florence Wright; and brothers-in-law, William Wright, and Kenneth Wright.

Wayne was of the Christian faith and attended Greater New Bethel Apostolic Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. He lived by God first, family second; this was most important in his life. Wayne was dedicated to his business and work for more than 50 years. He owned and operated Barrow Fence Company which opened in 1972 and is still in operation today. He was a 1957 graduate of Drewry Mason High School. In his free time, he enjoyed vintage automobiles and looked forward to lunch dates with his brother, Carl. Wayne was a very calm, compassionate, selfless person who would always give or do for others.

Wayne is survived by his wife, Shirley Ann Wright Barrow; daughters, Janet Martin (Ricky), Julie E. Barrow (Mark) and Teresa Barrow; brother, Carl Wesley Barrow (Linda Saylor); grandchildren, Wynn Martin (Iris), Nora Martin; God daughter, Nevaeh Wright; God Granddaughter, E’moni Eggleston; special family friend, Leonard Carter; brothers-in-law, Wayne Wright (Deborah), Larry Wright (Candi), and Kearfott “Danny” Wright (Verndale); sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Hopkins, Frances Wright, and Sue Kroll; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The funeral will be Saturday, February 10, 2024, at 12:00 PM at Refuge Temple with Renado Hairston officiating and Alan Preston presiding. Burial will follow at Roselawn Burial Park. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. A floating visitation will be held Friday, February 9, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at Wright Funeral Service Chapel.
