William Cleveland Scott

William Cleveland Scott, Sr., 86, of Rustburg, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025. He was born in Campbell County on May 12, 1938, the son of the late William Bryant Scott and Carrie Ward Scott.

In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Cunningham Scott and his brother, Andrew Lee Scott.

William retired from the Archer Creek Foundry after many years of dedicated service. Known for his infectious sense of humor, he never met a stranger and had a natural ability to bring a smile to those around him. He was a passionate gardener, with a special love for growing tomatoes, and was renowned for preparing the best ham anyone could taste. A true lover of life, William enjoyed traveling and could often be found at his grandchildren’s school and sporting events, always cheering them on.

He is survived by his daughter, Kelly Cecil and her fiancé, David Swain; his son, William C. “Bill” Scott, Jr. and his wife Cheryl; five grandchildren, Jasmine Franklin (Neil), T.J. Martin (Brittany), Tristan Bennett, Toria Bennett, and Blair Scott (La’Bris); five great-grandchildren, Alexis Franklin, Ryan Franklin, Breanna Martin, Raimey Adams, and Harmony Adams; two sisters, Elizabeth Jones and Marion Tweedy; devoted nephew, Alfred Smith (Pam); sisters-in-law, Sandra Smith (Sam) and Valerie Cunningham; brother-in-law,m Alfred “Red” Smith and a number of nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

A service celebrating William’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel. The Rev. Curtis Jones, Jr. will officiate, and Regina Tweedy will provide the eulogy. Interment will follow at the Organ Chapel Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel.

William will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, humor, and love for life will live on in the hearts of those who were touched by him.
