William David Porter

July 18, 1953 - April 12, 2025

William David “Poke” Porter, 71, of Roanoke, passed away, Saturday, April 12, 2025. Poke was preceded in death by his parents Gladys Udora “Happy” Porter and Thomas W. Porter; wife Rebecca; brothers, Michael Porter, Edgar “Clip” Porter and wife Carol; and beloved cat Lil Gray.

Left to carry on Poke’s memories are his brothers Wayne Porter and James Porter (Angie); sister, Linda Faye Porter. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews as well as his so loved four legged nieces and nephews Trap, Remmie, Rosa, Bruno, Callie, Baby Kitty, Gemma, and Sonni.

After growing up in Salem, Virginia; Poke moved to California and happily worked and retired from Seal Methods after 37 years. After retirement he moved back home to Virginia and enjoyed life to the fullest with his niece Elizabeth and her husband Anthony “Jason” Powers with their cats and dogs listed above.

If you were blessed to meet Poke you were loved by him so very much and each on e that met him couldn’t help but love him too. Poke taught us all to love like Jesus did. John 4:11 “Dear friends, since god so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

The family will have a gathering of family and friends, Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Don Ho’s Restaurant & Lounge 365 Lee Highway Hollins Va. 24019 from 6-9 p.m. Arrangements by Simpson Funeral Home Peters Creek Chapel. (540)366-0707.
