William Fitzgerald Brand

William Fitzgerald “Billy” “Captain” Brand, III, 77, of Salem, Va., passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at his home. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany on August 9, 1946, to the late Col. William Fitzgerald Brand, Jr., and Yvonne Moebel Brand.

Billy was a proud graduate of Virginia Military Institute and James Madison University. He also served his country faithfully in the United States Army. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, William Fitzgerald Brand and Ruth Holmes Brand; sister, Betsy Brand Nelson; and stepson, Justin Brooks.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Janet Dillon Brand; children, Billy “B4” Brand, Matthew Brand, and Lindsey Brand Skover and husband, Nick; brother, Bobby Brand and wife, Debby; grandchildren, Ella and Noah.

Friends may visit with family from 1-2 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2024, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem, where a celebration of his life will begin at 2 p.m. Inurnment will immediately follow the service at East Hill Cemetery in Salem.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the Salem VA Hospital for their kindness and care of Mr. Brand.
