William Hampton Givens
William Hampton “Bill” Givens, 85, of Roanoke County, went to his Heavenly Home on Sunday, April 19, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hampton S. and M. Louise Givens; and great grandson, Brantley Kennett Orr.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Virginia “Jenny” Sharp Givens; daughter, Karen Renee Wiseman (David); grandsons, Joshua Kennett Orr (Erin) and Jonathan William Orr (Ellie); great grandchildren, Bristol Kinsleigh Orr and Austin Joshua Orr; as well as a host of friends.
Bill was previously the Fire Chief of the Craig County - New Castle Volunteer Fire Department, and was a charter member of the Craig County Rescue Squad. He was previously the Vice Mayor of the town of New Castle, where he served for over twenty years on the Town Council. He was a member of the New Castle United Methodist Church, where he was a devoted Trustee while serving in many other capacities. After 20 years of service, he retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation, New Castle headquarters, where he was an Equipment Operator.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Bill will be remembered as a caring and loving friend to all that knew him, always quick with a kind word or helping hand. He had a deep passion for his cars and took great pride in them, known for his attention to detail and particular nature when it came to keeping them just right. His warmth, dedication, and unmistakable personality leaves a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to call him a friend.
The family will have a Memorial Service on Friday, April 24, 2026 at 3:00 pm at Simpson Funeral Home, 5160 Peters Creek Rd. Roanoke, VA 24019, officiated by Rev. Emory N. Tarpley. A Visitation will be held one hour prior from 2:00 – 3:00 pm.
