Winifred "Jackie" (Golding) Cooke

Mrs. Winifred “Jackie” Golding Cooke, age 97, of Westfield, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family at her daughter’s home. Mrs. Cooke was born on December 14, 1928, in Surry County, to the late Clay William Golding and Essie Mae Collins Golding. Jackie lived a long and adventurous life, filled with many friends and family. She never met a stranger, always kept busy doing anything to help those she loved. Whether it was taking care of loved ones, working on their farm, dancing, fishing, helping in the beauty shop, spending time with family and friends, or thrifting for that great find. She lived a life full of profound grace, unshakeable faith, and radical love for others. She spent countless hours in prayer for her family and friends. Her life was a living testament to Proverbs 31:30 “Charm is deceptive, and beauty in fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.” And Proverbs 31:25-26 “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” She leaves behind her daughter Sheila Cooke Cox; her grandchildren Emily Willard (Chad), David Cox and partner (Robert “Stuckey” Mace), Boone Cooke; her great-grandchildren, Ila Willard, Tabin Willard, Carter Cooke, Marie Cooke, Lucas Willard (Hannah), Carson Willard; her brother Senator Golding; daughter-in-law, Donna Stubbs; as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cooke was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Lawrence Cooke, Sr.; her second husband, Charlie James Lucas; a son and daughter-in-law, Charles Lawrence “Larry” Cooke, Jr. and Marylin Cook Cooke; a son-in-law, Jack Allen “Jackie” Cox, Jr.; her sisters, Wanda Lou Golding Journey, Jurmaine “Jerry” Golding Bailey; and her brothers, Laconda Buddy Golding, Clay William “Red” Golding, Jr., and Meredith Codell Golding. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with Reverend Drew Southern officiating. Interment will follow in the Woodville Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Moody Funeral Home from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
