Jack Kendrick
Jack Kyle Kendrick age 93 of Vinton passed away on Friday, February 7, 2025, at his home. He was born on October 25, 1931 a son of the late Arthur and Lena Davidson Kendrick. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Velma Perdue Kendrick; sisters, Theresia K. Hylton, Patricia K. Hancock and Nina K. Bowles; and brother, Allen W. Kendrick, Sr.Jack was an U.S. Army Veteran having served in Korea and he retired from Nelson Roanoke Hardware with more than 40 years of service. After his retirement, Jack was part of the pit crew for Wood Brothers Racing from 1963 to 1994. After racing, he enjoyed many years driving a tour bus for Abbott Bus Lines. On several of these trips, his wife Velma would join him as a tour guide along with their dear friend, Betty Sink.He is survived by his nephews, Jerry Hancock (Linda), Wade Kendrick (Sherry), Mike Bowles (Drema); his special canine companion, Buddy; very special friends and neighbors, Bruce and Martha Pelish; numerous extended family and friends.In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions in Jack's name to: Angels of Assisi Animal Shelter, 415 Campbell Avenue, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016 or to Carilion Clinic Hospice (Roanoke), 1615 Franklin Road, SW, Roanoke, VA 24016.Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Conner-Bowman Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. Chris Monroe officiating. Entombment will follow at 3:00 PM in the Chaple Mausoleum at Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens with military honors.
