Jack "Pappy" L. Shepp
Jack L. "Pappy" Shepp, 81, of Vinton, passed away peacefully on Friday, July 12, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on July 8, 1943, in York, Pennsylvania, to John Edward Schell and Lois Shepp Schell. In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Schell, his granddaughters, Baillie Nichole Edsall and Jalen Danielle Edsall, and his cherished fur baby, Chardonnay.
Jack “Pappy”graduated from William Penn Sr. High in 1961 and later earned an associate degree from York Institute of Technology in 1992. He dedicated many years of his life to Cole Steel and Caterpillar before retiring in 2006. In 2007, Jack “Pappy” and his wife Joy “Ladee” relocated to Vinton to be closer to their daughter and granddaughters. Jack “Pappy” was a devoted supporter of his family, attending all of their competitions during high school and college. His passion for swimming and diving led him to serve as a PIAA Swimming and Diving Official for over 30 years. Jack “Pappy” loved traveling, with Jamaica and Hawaii holding special places in his heart.
Jack “Pappy” is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joy D. "Ladee" Shepp; daughter, Jodylee Shepp Edsall (Edwin "Duke"); sisters, Susan Dull and Sally Wilson (Rick); brother, David Schell (Kimberly); sister-in-law, Patricia Schell; granddaughters, Kacy Layne Dadak (Christopher) and Kali Ryan Edsall Jones (Brett); great-grandson, Bennett Duke Dadak; fur baby, Kiki Rouge; grand-dogs, Hank and Moose; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

A Celebration of Jack “Pappy’s” Life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Parkway Church on the Mountain, 3645 Orange Ave NE, Roanoke, VA 24012 with Dr. John W. Ott and Pastor David Derrick officiating. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service. Burial will be private.
In addition, a Celebration of Jack “Pappy's” Life will be held in York, Pennsylvania on August 24, 2024, location to be announced later.
