Janet Martin

Mrs. Janet Kay Carter Martin, age 74, of Roanoke, formerly of Covington, died Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Roanoke. She was the wife of the late James Frederick "Freddie" Martin who preceded her in death on August 1, 2019.
Mrs. Martin was born November 5, 1949 in Covington, the daughter of the late Herbert Daniel Carter and Dreama Gwendolyn Arrington Carter. During her working career, she was employed as a hairdresser for Mrs. Reynolds as well as Merle Norman before working as a sales associate at Schewels Home Furniture Company in Covington. Janet was a member of Lake Drive Church of Christ.
Mrs. Martin is survived by two sons, Frederick Dean Martin and wife, April of Roanoke and James Daniel Martin and wife, Ivory of Roanoke; a daughter, Elizabeth M. Cantley-Beckner of Roanoke; grandchildren, Matthew Allen Cantley and wife, Katie of Nashville; Lauren S. Beckner of Roanoke, Jordan Graybil of Roanoke, Brandon James Martin of Roanoke and Auria Sara Martin of Roanoke; a great grandchild, Jackson Cantley (son of Matthew Cantley); a brother, Herbert Daniel Carter, Jr. and wife, Kathy; and a sister, Debby Sue Carter Weese and husband, Elmer of Covington.
In addition to her husband, Freddie, Mrs. Martin was preceded in death by an infant brother, James Daniel Carter and a sister, Bobbie Dean Glaser.
A funeral service will be conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, October 6, 2024 at Covington Church of Christ with James Daniel Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 P.M. until time of service at Covington Church of Christ.
